Your Own Show – Part II – Get the Word Out #3
I have heard from a handful of followers who plan to participate in Challenge #1 – “Tea”. It’s only about five of us at this point, but it promises to be fun and have some interesting outcomes. Feel free to join in at any point if you’d like, the assignment isn’t “due” until April 30th. I already have some interesting ideas for my project, but I can’t tell you! You’ll just have to wait until the unveiling party!
I was really ready to move onto the next section of the series, when I realized I had left out some information that may be valuable. It isn’t much, but probably shouldn’t be overlooked. The first thing is that ideally you would hand-address your invitations if possible, even going so far as to include a short note to the effects of “Hope to see you there!” Have a friend or two come help, and offer pizza or some other goody in exchange for their efforts.
Invitations ought to be mailed about two weeks in advance of your show. Too late, and people can’t plan in advance. But too early, and people may forget about the show entirely. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to give a personal call a few days after you have completed the mailing, just to follow up, asking if they have received their invitations and if they’ll be able to come.
If it’s your first show, let people know. Even if it’s not, people generally feel special to be included in such an event, and I’ve had family members drive hours in order to attend an opening. Most people are interested in being a part of the artist’s career as it progresses.
To be continued…
