Studio Shows

Filed under: getting started, business, art marketing — jen @ 9:16 pm

Do you have a studio? If so, the opportunity exists for you to reach out to the community with your work on your own turf. You obviously don’t need to jury yourself in to your own show, so you have no worries about competition or deadlines.

Open studio event are a great way for artists to network with collectors and exhibit their work in a highly controlled environment. You set the dates, the times, create the advertising budget, and set the atmosphere to your liking. Your personal space can work well since many collectors don’t just buy a work of art simply because they like it; they are investing in the artist. Therefore an artist needs to meet potential buyers and establish a relationship that can last for years to come.

Many artists and craftspeople are becoming more personalized in their marketing. Buyers don’t just want to buy something that is aesthetically pleasing or is functional. They want a piece of the craftsman, a story or an experience they can take away with them.

My next post will cover the logistics of hosting a one-man show out of your studio….
